I cut the lower front and rear body pieces from the chassis, preserving the stock body mounts, and then prepared and glued the lower parts to each respective end of the body.

Generally this is not a good design for wood track racing and the solution is to create a chassis that has better 'floatability' by removing the body pieces from the chassis and attaching them to the body. The lower parts of the front and rear are mated to the chassis in the classic Scalextric 'clamshell' type of slot car. At that point I decided to just sand the remnants of the old spoiler down and go without. I though about 3D printing a new one but a search on Thingiverse turned up nothing suitable.
